We offer complete payroll services, but if you prefer,we can also train your staff to handle your payroll internally. An odd philosophy for a CPA firm perhaps. While the numbers change every pay period, payroll processes don’t. Most companies can handle it themselves, especially knowing we’re there to support them. Remember, even a payroll service still requires your company to perform certain tasks, like tabulating employee hours. There of dozens of payroll services out there. WHY? There is good profit to be made from employers who are intimidated into thinking they can’t do it themselves.
“We help make you self sufficient in payroll to any extent you desire. And then offer support as needed.”
Gary Bode, CPA
Wilmington NC Payroll Accountant
Most folks can handle payroll themselves, usually without much help. Although we provide an expert support net, when and if needed. Payroll self sufficiency just takes a bit of training, plus developing a few forms and checklists. Please see my payroll example post. Payroll has changed little over the last few decades, but the biggest change occurred in 2010 - see my posts on the 2010 HIRE Act.
Is Cash Flow the Problem?
The biggest advantage ADP offered, when I worked with them, was collecting the expected payroll and unemployment taxes in advance, along with net payroll. It is easy to think of payroll in terms of net pay and then be cash strapped when the taxes have to be remitted. A better mindset, if you include payoll related expenses like Workman’s Comp, is to plan cash flow as 115% of GROSS payroll.
Sometimes Out Sourcing Payroll Makes Sense
Paying wages in multiple states, employee benefits, advance EIC, employee garnishments etc. can be overwhelming. But most companies only have a few payroll issues that can be easily conquered. The payroll process has multiple internal cross checks that let you know when your figures are off.
