The IRS says about 75% of Americans e-file their Form 1040. But sometimes you really need to file by mail:
- There’s additional documentation to include that can’t be uploaded for e-filing.
- In January of 2014 we couldn’t e-file some returns because the IRS systems were down.
Your tax CPA is usually required to e-file, but you can elect not to e-file if the CPA attaches IRS Form 8948, Preparer Explanation for Not Filing Electronically, to your IRS tax return. Here’s some of the reasons I’ve heard for not e-filing.
- Some Folks object to e-filing because they’re afraid of computers.
- Some Folks have religious beliefs that prevent them from e-filing.
- Some Folks don’t like making the IRS’s job easier.
- Some Folks e-filing makes it easier for the IRS to pre-audit your tax returns.
