Small business accounting should be used to help make sound financial decisions for your company. We don’t recommend running a company strictly “by the numbers.” But powerful tools, like the Fortune 500 companies use, can be fashioned from accounting components, giving your company a competitive edge in any economy.
Small Business Accounting Software Selection
We’ll work with any accounting software. But Intuit’s QuickBooks and Sage’s Peachtree are the most common. If you need help selecting an appropriate program, we’re happy to help. There is seldom a package that meets all a company’s needs straight out of the box. So experience with adapting software to the particulars of your small business accounting is important.
Accounting Software Setup
One of our goals is to make your small business accounting intuitively obvious for managerial purposes. So we get to know how you think about your business first and setup the software to best reflect that. This goes beyond just naming and grouping accounts logically. For example, we can set things up in terms of actual cash flow, the way most non accountants think of finances. And then bring the accounting back into Generally Accepted Accounting Principals for your bank, the IRS etc.
Small Business Bookkeeping
Capturing the day to day financial transactions accurately is obviously important. If you need it, we can train your bookkeeper in payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank statement reconciliations etc. Again, we feel small business accounting should help you manage the company, which requires accurate and timely bookkeeping.
Small Business Accounting Financial Statements
Generally we offer monthly or quarterly review of the aggregated bookkeeping and then prepare Financial Statements. Many CPAs don’t prepare the Statement of Cash Flows. But we think it is a powerful cash flow management tool; it just takes a little explanation to use. We’ll also train you to understand the Income Statement and Balance Sheet.
Performance Dashboards
We can take your small business bookkeeping reports, export them into Excel, and build you a customized performance dashboard. Our goal; to convey 80% of what the Fortune 500 companies use for managerial purposes in 20 minutes a month. A performance dashboard example; financial ratios, often graphed over time, to spot trends in the company before they might otherwise be noticed.
