"Gary explained the crazy payroll tax process so even I understood it. He trained the staff and provides ongoing support. Much cheaper than a payroll service."

avatar"Gary Bode has just completed our tax returns for the first time and I am totally satisfied with his level of service. He has been very attentive, asked all the right questions, and not only fixed some problems from our previous accountant, but also set us up for future success through a thorough and professional analysis of our corporate structure in conjunction with several personal variables.

I have worked with quite a few CPA’s in my life, and Gary has proven himself to be one of the most thoughtful, insightful, and pleasant fellows I have ever worked with."—J. Louis Tabor

I used Gary’s services to file my 2012 income tax return. This was my first year having an accountant do my return, as I have always done it myself using TurboTax. However, this year I had cancelled debt from my old primary residence which I was forced to convert to a rental property after relocating out of state.

While it didn’t cost me anything to do the short sale, the income tax consequence from the cancelled debt, roughly $50,000 in my case, was enough to move me from the 15% tax bracket to the 25% tax bracket.  Needless to say, I was concerned about that.

Finances were already tight and my husband and I are expecting our first child this fall. So the possibility of owing income tax was stressing me out. However, Gary was great at relieving my fears.

He is extremely knowledgeable, answered all my questions and was very thorough. I knew I was in good hands. He kept in constant contact with me throughout the process, keeping me updated on the progress of my return and letting me know what paperwork he needed to complete my filing.

In my mind, best case scenario would have been to not owe any taxes. Second best would be to only owe a little. Well, you can imagine my surprise and delight when Gary told me I was actually due a refund of a little over $2,700.00!

To top it all off, I found Gary’s fee for service to be fair, competitive and affordable; especially given the complexity of this type of return. I am so glad I did not try and go it alone this year. I am extremely pleased with Gary’s service and would recommend him highly to anyone, in fact I already have. If you have cancelled debt from a short sale or foreclosure, don’t freak out. Take a deep breath and call or email Gary. I am grateful I did.

I became totally and permanently disabled after a working for 44 years. I returned to college late in life (while working full-time) to fulfill my dream of becoming an RN and at that time found it necessary to secure student loans. Three years after being declared totally and permanently disabled my student loans were discharged. In January 2013 we received a 1099-C form declaring said student loans that were discharged however that amount could be considered as income for 2012. This was a large amount of money and we live on two pensions and social security income.

I started looking on the internet for information regarding 1099-C and felt that this was something that we could not handle alone. I made phone calls locally to a very reputable tax group in a city near us and they said it would cost $500 for an appointment and that they really prefer to do corporate taxes and they referred me to a local person who had worked for them at one time, we called and explained the situation and an appointment was made and then the comment was made that "I will have to do some research on this" and flags immediately went up and we called back and cancelled that appointment. I had been researching the IRSwebsite and every place else I could think of and I was not comfortable doing our own taxes this year. We called another local tax preparer that we had used in the past and made an appointment, however prior to the appointment, while still seeking information regarding our situation,

I came across a website for Gary l. Bode, MSA, CPA, PC in Wilmington, NC. I called Mr. Bodeand explained our situation and asked if he could help. He spoke very knowledgeably regarding the situation and stated that yes; he felt he could help us. As Mr. Bode was in North Carolina and we were in New York I scanned all of our documents including back-up documents for all of our claims and forwarded all to him. Mr. Bode kept in touch with us via email; we have spoken on the telephone several times and have become very comfortable with his knowledge and professionalism. Also, as I am a true "worrier" I have continued looking into information regarding our tax situation and I came upon another web page for Mr. Bode that included testimonials which spoke of his experience with this type of tax situation as it became prevalent during the recession. This reinforced in our minds that we had made the right decision in hiring this person as our tax preparer.

I share all of this as our taxes are now ready to be filed (we do owe tax for 2012 but not the astronomical figure we thought we were facing), and we are confident that they have been prepared with the utmost care by a gentleman who has an excellent working knowledge of the situation we faced and the tax laws that were applicable to said situation.

My husband and I had to deal with canceled debt from a Deed in Lieu of Foreclosure on a second home with our 2012 taxes. We never had to deal with this type of tax experience and needless to say, we were fearful. Owing taxes on possible additional income was stressful. We searched for CPA’s as well as info about DILs and how Insolvency worked. When we came across Gary’s website, we were impressed. We found his website 8 months prior to tax season. We kept it as a “Favorite” as we knew we would need to contact him for assistance. When it was time to get a CPA, we called Gary. We felt relieved that we actually had someone that not only understood our concerns but was an expert in this area. He walked us through the process and all the time telling us not to worry. When our taxes were completed, you cannot imagine the relief we had when we actually were able to get a refund.

Gary is a dedicated professional and attentive to his clients. We love the virtual office as it is convenient during tax time and he’s fees were fair and affordable when you consider the depth of work accomplished on our taxes!

We’ve already started recommending Gary to others. We are so blessed and grateful for all that Gary did to assist with our taxes.

The recession was hard on me. In 2009 the banks foreclosed a few of my rental properties, than issuing me 1099C's to make the situation even worse. This made my tax liability enormous, as a result I didn't file taxes for a couple of years. I started receiving letters about my unpaid taxes from the government and my job. The accountant I hired in the past really didn't know much about 1099C,,s. That's when I searched the web and found Gary a life saver to say the least, he knew exactly what to do. If I would not have waited three years to file I would not have lost thousands for filing late. I wish I would have found him sooner, the fact that he does taxes in any state is a plus. I truly cant say enough positive things about my experience doing business with Gary. Thanks Again.

As a professional with a busy schedule and layers of accounting complexity, I need the peace of mind that comes with knowing my financials are being handled professionally, in compliance with all laws and regulations, and with an eye to detail.

Gary Bode has provided tax preparation and business accounting assistance to me for three years now, and I can honestly say that I rest well at night, knowing that someone is tending to the details that I don't have time to master.  He is professional, always willing to work through a complex situation, and he explores every angle.

I look forward to working with Gary for many years to come, and wholeheartedly recommend his services to anyone who is looking for the assistance of a capable accountant.
